Kickstarter is getting stricter with NSFW projects, as described in this new guide they just sent out.
Right when I’m entering the world of NSFW.
Geez, talk about perfect timing🙄
So, yeah, I’ve been doing quite a bit of contemplating.
Do I stay here on kickstarter and gamble with a project I’m putting so much time, money, and energy into? Which will include paying for another set of sample pages, so as to have a tamer scene?
Hoping this will be enough to please the powers that be so they won’t flag my project?
Or do I migrate to a platform that won’t censor/suppress my passion project, and hope you follow me to a new cyber home?
Contemplation led me to research a new platform specifically designed for NSFW comic projects.
Dooz.
So I reached out to them and asked for details.
Their reply?
We do not accept ai projects.
WTF?!
I hired a detailed illustrator to hand draw my illustrations!
And it wasn’t cheap!
So the guy from Dooz claims the work is ai, despite the following screenshots I have from my illustrator.
There’s a few more, but I don’t wanna get kicked off here for not censoring them.
His reply?
Soooo....
Have I been bamboozled, or did I discover one of the greatest illustrators out there?
I reached out to my illustrator.
She hasn’t replied yet.
In all fairness, it is currently pretty late at night where she is.
So yeah, my current state is that of being anxiety-filled.
If it turns out I’ve been deceived, yeah, I’m gonna be pissed!
On the other hand, if my illustrator is proven to be legit, Mr. AI Detector is gonna have some words to eat, and probably even an Eisner to be jealous of when we win it😆
So I will say this:
If she used ai, I will have to suffer the loss of time and money and hire someone else.
With that said, I personally believe we are not being realistic as to what the future holds.
Instead of holding on tightly to self-righteous indignation, I dare say, what should matter most is the value we find in something.
I’m a writer, and can’t imagine turning to ai to tell the stories I want to tell. The process is too spiritual to me.
It’s my magic.
It’s my soul work.
Does this mean I would refuse to purchase a great story created by ai over a superficial cliche story created by a human?
Nope.
And this includes comics and graphic novels with crappy storytelling and ginormous breasted characters!
If ai is going to give me an amazing, enlightening, story full of ssubstace which includes realistic female characters who have bbeautiful palm-sized tits, here’s my money! Take it!
So yeah, a lot of people need to get over themselves and focus on quality over anything else.
Because Pandora’s box has already been opened, and there’s no going back.
Besides, you’re using ai in your hand right now.😆
